All-on-6 (or All-on-X) dental implants

Fully fixed set of teeth in a day

The All-on-6 dental implant technique is a revolutionary procedure that allows patients to attend the surgery in the morning and leave with a fully fixed temporary set of teeth in the afternoon.

The All-on-6 concept was developed to enable the implant dentist to minimise the number of implants required to restore an entire arch (jaw) of teeth and allow the temporary restoration to be fitted to the implants on the same day. Traditional implant techniques require 6–12 implants (which cost significantly more) to restore a jaw and a period of extended healing time where the bridge cannot be fixed.

The scientific idea behind the technique is that the front implants are placed straight into the front of the jawbone parallel to the previously existing teeth, while the implants at the back of the jaw are angled at about 30 to 45 degrees compared to original root positions. This enables the implants to provide firm overall support and evenly spreads the chewing forces transmitted from the denture or bridge to the jawbone.

All-on-6 (or All-on-X) dental implants

The All-on-6 (or All-on-X) dental implant procedure is an innovative cosmetic solution for replacing missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw. This procedure involves securing a fixed bridge with six or more titanium implants, offering patients a durable and aesthetically pleasing full-arch replacement.

The All-on-6 approach is particularly suited to individuals with sufficient bone density in the jaw. This technique creates a permanent prosthesis by using six or more implants as stable anchors for a bridge. At Ardent Smile, we generally advise placing more than six implants in each jaw and designing three or four smaller bridges to reconstruct the full arch. This segmented configuration not only enhances the aesthetic outcome but also simplifies hygiene maintenance and allows for easier management — if an issue arises with one implant in the future, only the affected segment requires replacement, rather than the entire bridge.

In many cases, a temporary fixed bridge can be connected to the implants on the same day; however, in certain instances, impressions may be taken and the temporary bridge is placed within 5–7 working days.

Prices start from £16,000 when a temporary bridge is included, or £14,000 if no provisional bridge is provided during the treatment phase. Many of our patients report that the All-on-6 approach provides a more comfortable, secure fit, as the evenly distributed pressure when biting promotes enhanced comfort and stability.

Locator denture retained implant dentures, also known as locator-retained overdentures, are a treatment option that replaces missing teeth with a removable denture that snaps into place over dental implants.

How it works: Dental implants are placed into the jawbone and act as artificial roots to support a removable denture. This denture snaps into place using button-like fittings called locators, providing a secure yet easily removable option.
Benefits: This treatment improves appearance, speech and eating capabilities, preserves jawbone, and helps reduce wrinkles by supporting facial structure.

Bar Retained Implant Dentures

Bar-retained implant dentures, also known as implant-supported overdentures, are a type of removable prosthesis that combines the stability of dental implants with the flexibility of dentures.

How it works: Dental implants are surgically placed in the jawbone and act as anchors for a metal bar. A removable overdenture with replacement teeth is then attached to the bar using clips.
Benefits: Bar-retained implant dentures provide more stability and support than traditional dentures and can help prevent jawbone atrophy. They can be a good option for people who have lost most or all of their teeth or who have significant bone loss.

Before and after full upper arch implants with fixed bridge at Ardent Smile Clinic — Case 2.The client used to wear a removable denture for his upper jaw, which was uncomfortable. He was looking for an option that would provide him with implants plus a fixed bridge, all the work to be completed on the same day. After a consultation, he proceeded with the extraction of all remaining teeth in his upper jaw and had 6 implants with a bridge. All the work was accomplished with local anaesthesia and surgical guidelines based on his CBCT scan. However, a fixed bridge is a temporary measure, and he had to return after 6 months once the gum had healed. Two bridges were then fitted to complete the procedure.
